Box elder bugs are common pests over much of the United States, especially East Tennessee. Adults are about 1/2 inch long and have a bright red or black with narrow reddish lines on the back (as pictured). Box elder bugs feed principally by sucking juices from the box elder tree, but are sometimes found on other plants. They do very little damage to the trees they attack, but around the Fall season they can become a big nuisance in your home. Often their large populations will invade a home, seeking winter shelter. Although mostly a nuisance by their presence, their piercing-sucking mouthparts can sometimes puncture skin, causing slight irritation.
So don’t get invaded by these pests, instead Call Preferred Pest Termite and Turf and Schedule your Fall Power Spray to get rid of these and the other Fall Invaders of East Tennessee.
